Template:Nihongo is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hitsuji Yamada. It began serialization on Kodansha's Suiyōbi no Sirius online manga section on the Nico Nico Seiga website in August 2018, and is also published in Monthly Shōnen Sirius since October 2021. An anime television series adaptation produced by GoHands aired from July to September 2023.

Plot

The young employee Saku lives alone with her cat Yukichi, a feline as big as it is special. Yukichi is in fact extraordinarily intelligent, doing his utmost to take care of the house and of his mistress, who on the contrary is far from conscientious and has a habit of neglecting herself and her house.

A young salarywoman who works as a foreman in a large company. Careless, ditzy and not very careful to take care of herself, she is also a compulsive hoarder and often exceeds in drinking. After taking Yukichi with her and understanding his exceptional nature, her life has significantly improved. Thanks to the cat's work, she has started to follow a healthier lifestyle, drinking less and taking better care of herself. Although she may appear lazy, if she is prodded she turns out to be an excellent employee.

A big black cat who lives with Saku in her apartment. Big as a human being and extraordinarily intelligent, he is able to walk on two legs and use any kind of tool or appliance. He also has a great memory capacity and can learn new things easily. He is very skilled at cooking, something he is very proud of. He takes care of the house while his mistress is at work, as well as taking care of meals and household chores. Although he claims to have bonded with Saku only to not starve it's quite obvious that over time he has grown fond of her, worrying about her health and supporting her in her daily problems.

Written and illustrated by Hitsuji Yamada, The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today began serialization on Kodansha's Suiyōbi no Sirius online manga section on the Nico Nico Seiga website on August 22, 2018;[3] it also started publication in Monthly Shōnen Sirius on October 26, 2021.[4][5] Kodansha has collected its chapters into individual Template:Transliteration volumes. The first volume was released on April 9, 2019.[6] As of September 9, 2024, ten volumes have been released.[7]

In North America, the manga is licensed for English release by Seven Seas Entertainment.[8]

Anime

In May 2022, it was announced that the series would be adapted into an anime television series.[9] The series is produced by GoHands, who supervised the scripts written by Tamazo Yanagi, with Katsumasa Yokomine directing, Susumu Kudo serving as chief director, and Takayuki Uchida designing the characters.[10] It aired from July 8 to September 30, 2023, on the Animeism programming block on MBS and other affiliates.[1]Template:Efn The opening theme song is Template:Nihongo by Somei.[11] Crunchyroll licensed the series.[12] Medialink licensed the series in South, Southeast Asia and Oceania (except Australia and New Zealand) and will stream it on Ani-One Asia's YouTube channel.[13][14] Netflix added the series to its catalog in India in December 2023.[15]

Reception

The series ranked eleventh on "Nationwide Bookstore Employees' Recommended Comics of 2020" by the Honya Club online bookstore.[16] The series was also ranked eighteenth in the 2020 Next Manga Award in the web category.[17]
