More actions
The Times, Plate I is a 1762 engraving by William Hogarth, the first of two intended prints, satirizing political factionalism in Britain and attacking the opposition press's criticism of the government's conduct of the Seven Years' War.[1] The print proved politically controversial, drawing public attacks on Hogarth from writers including John Wilkes and Charles Churchill and contributing to a bitter late-career feud between the artist and his critics.
