The Dover Boys at Pimento University (full title The Dover Boys at Pimento University or The Rivals of Roquefort Hall) is a 1942 Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies cartoon directed by Chuck Jones, released September 19, 1942.[1] The short parodies the popular Rover Boys book series.[1]
Significance
The cartoon is notable as one of the first to use limited animation, a technique employing fewer individual drawings per second to achieve a stylized, economical visual approach rather than full fluid motion.[1] The technique would go on to influence a wide range of later cartoons and studios.[1] The film runs just under nine minutes and entered the public domain after United Artists failed to renew its copyright.[1]
