The Assembly at Wanstead House is a conversation-piece painting by William Hogarth, created around 1728–1731, depicting a social gathering of the aristocratic Child family inside the drawing room of Wanstead House, one of the grandest Palladian mansions in Georgian England.[1] The painting is an example of the small-scale group portraiture, known as the conversation piece, that Hogarth used to build his early reputation before turning to satirical print series.
