Tailpiece, or The Bathos is an engraving by William Hogarth from 1764, his final major print, depicting the collapse and death of the world amid broken symbols of time, art, and human endeavor — a deliberately anticlimactic ("bathos") vision of the end of all things.[1] Hogarth intended the print as his artistic farewell, and he died later the same year.
