South Park
More actions
South Park is an animated television series created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone that premiered on Comedy Central on August 13, 1997.[1] The concept originated as a short film Parker and Stone made using cut-out construction paper and stop-motion techniques while at the University of Colorado in 1992; the series premiere kept that original method, while later episodes used computer animation designed to mimic the same look.[1]
Impact
South Park transformed Comedy Central's fortunes: its series premiere drew a 1.3 Nielsen rating, and later episodes reached as high as 3.8, far above the network's prior 0.6 average, expanding its reach by an estimated 20 million homes and allowing advertising rates to rise sharply.[1] Nearly three decades later, the series remains a cultural phenomenon, having spawned films and video games and continuing on Paramount+.[1]
