Pearls Before Swine (comic strip)

Satirical daily comic strip by Stephan Pastis, syndicated since 2001

Pearls Before Swine is an American satirical daily comic strip created by Stephan Pastis, centered on Rat, Pig, Goat, Zebra, and a trio of dim-witted crocodiles.[1]

History

Pastis, a former insurance-defense attorney, drew roughly forty strips before the feature was picked up; it was syndicated online from around 1999-2000 and reached print in major papers including The Washington Post from December 2001.[1] The strip is now distributed by Andrews McMeel Syndication.

Content

The strip satirizes existentialism, media, and everyday absurdity through the cynical Rat and naive Pig, with supporting characters Goat and Larry the Guard Duck.[1] Pastis has won the Reuben Award (2018) and multiple National Cartoonists Society Division awards.[2]
