Masquerades and Operas, also known as The Bad Taste of the Town, is an engraving published by William Hogarth in 1724, his first major satirical print.[1] It mocks contemporary London's enthusiasm for imported Italian opera, elaborate masquerade balls, and pantomime at the expense of serious native drama and the fine arts, a theme Hogarth returned to the same year in A Just View of the British Stage.
