Huey, Dewey, and Louie
More actions
Huey, Dewey, and Louie are fictional triplet ducks who are the nephews of Donald Duck in the Disney universe.
Origin
The characters were introduced by cartoonist Al Taliaferro in the Donald Duck newspaper comic strip on October 17, 1937, when Donald's twin sister Della sends her triplet sons to stay with their uncle, along with a letter explaining their father's hospitalization.[1] They made their animated debut the following year in the Disney short Donald's Nephews (April 1938).[1] Taliaferro went on to push for a dedicated Donald Duck comic strip, which launched February 7, 1938, further establishing the nephews alongside the character.[1]
Later portrayals
The characters have been revisited across numerous comics and animated adaptations, most prominently DuckTales. In the 2017 DuckTales reboot, the brothers were given more distinct personalities: Huey as the responsible, by-the-book Junior Woodchuck; Dewey as a middle triplet eager for trouble; and Louie as a mischievous schemer willing to "demand valuables" from his brothers.[2] The 2017 series also voices the trio with three different actors rather than a single performer, a departure from earlier adaptations.[2]
