This historical map image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}. It is recommended to name the SVG file “Canada provinces 1870-1871.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.

Map of the provinces and territories of Canada as they were from 1870 to 1871. On July 15 1870, Rupert's Land and the North-Western Territory were ceded to Canada, and became the North-West Territories; a small square of this was made into the province of Manitoba. On July 20 1871, British Columbia joined as a province.
