Comic Book DB
More actions
Comic Book DB (also referenced as CBDB) is an online, community-maintained database that catalogues comic book series, individual issues, creators, publishers, and characters, used widely as a reference and research tool by comic book researchers, librarians, and fans.[1]
Overview
Like other comic-cataloguing projects such as the Grand Comics Database, Comic Book DB relies on volunteer contributors to enter bibliographic detail — writers, artists, cover dates, story arcs, and character appearances — for individual comic book issues. Academic and library research guides covering comics and graphic novels list such databases as key tools for identifying creator credits, publication history, and character first-appearances that are not always recorded in secondary sources.[1]
Use in research
Comic cataloguing databases of this kind are commonly cited by librarians and researchers compiling bibliographies of comic book creators and series, and are used to cross-reference publication data against other primary sources such as original issues and publisher solicitations.[1]
