CartoonWiki:Featured cartoonist

This page documents CartoonWiki's Monthly Featured Cartoonist program: a rotating, community-nominated spotlight on one cartoonist, animator, or comic creator each month, shown on the Main Page.

How it works

The Main Page transcludes Featured cartoonist auto, which automatically picks and displays whichever cartoonist is scheduled for the current month — no manual monthly edit needed. If the article for that month's honoree has a photo, it shows beside their name; if not, the card just shows the name and details, no broken image.

Under the hood: each scheduled month is its own page, CartoonWiki:Featured cartoonist/YYYY-MM (e.g. CartoonWiki:Featured cartoonist/2026-09 for September 2026), containing a normal Featured cartoonist call. The auto-wrapper looks up the page matching the current month and shows it; if a month has no page yet, it shows an honest "not yet scheduled" placeholder instead of stale or wrong data.

To set up a future month:

1. Nominate a creator on this page's talk page, or pick one from the candidate pool below — anyone can suggest a candidate.
2. Create CartoonWiki:Featured cartoonist/YYYY-MM with their details, using the template call shown below.
3. It'll appear automatically once that month arrives — nothing else to do.

See Template:Featured cartoonist for what each parameter does — article controls where "Read full article →" links, and can be left blank if the honoree doesn't have a dedicated CartoonWiki article yet. image can also be left blank if no usable photo exists (e.g. the source Wikipedia article's photo turns out to be a non-free file not available via InstantCommons) — the card just omits the photo area rather than showing a broken image.

Schedule

September 2026 through August 2027 are already fully set up (real photos and bios pulled from each honoree's existing CartoonWiki article, not invented) and will appear automatically as each month arrives — no action needed for these. The table below is the same schedule for reference.

The remaining names not yet assigned a month, plus anyone else worth adding — a running shortlist so nominations don't have to start from zero. Anyone can add to, reorder, or remove from this list; the schedule above already draws 12 names from it.

Archive

Now that the schedule rotates automatically, an outgoing honoree's page (CartoonWiki:Featured cartoonist/YYYY-MM) already stays around as its own permanent record — nothing gets deleted or overwritten month to month. This table is just an optional, easier-to-scan index of that history; nobody has rotated out yet (Osamu Tezuka, August 2026, is still the most recent), so it's empty for now.
