CartoonWiki:Cartoonist rotations
More actions
Four auto-rotating spotlights — cartoonist of the day, of the week, of the month, and of the year — all built on Template:Rotation spotlight. Unlike CartoonWiki:Featured cartoonist (a human-curated monthly pick, which this does not replace), these pick automatically from whatever candidates exist, with zero editing needed once set up. Add candidates when you have time; the rotation keeps itself current either way.
How it works
Each of the four programs is a numbered pool of subpages:
CartoonWiki:Cartoonist of the day/1,/2, ...CartoonWiki:Cartoonist of the week/1,/2, ...CartoonWiki:Cartoonist of the month/1,/2, ...CartoonWiki:Cartoonist of the year/1,/2, ...
Template:Rotation spotlight picks a slot deterministically from the current date (day-of-year / ISO week / month / year, mod however many subpages exist) — see that template's own documentation for exactly how, and for an honest note on its one real limitation (adding a new candidate reshuffles which date maps to which existing slot).
Adding a cartoonist
- Pick the next unused number for the pool you're adding to.
- Create
CartoonWiki:Cartoonist of the <day/week/month/year>/N. - Fill it with an Infobox creator transclusion (same as any creator's own article) plus a sentence or two on why they're a good pick for that pool.
Only slot 1 of each pool exists so far, filled with a placeholder — replace it and start adding more.
Where it's shown
All four are transcluded on the Main Page.
