A Midnight Modern Conversation is an engraving by William Hogarth, published in 1733, depicting eleven men in a private tavern room in varying states of drunkenness during a late-night gathering.[1] Unlike Hogarth's contemporary narrative series A Rake's Progress, the scene is an all-male gathering with no single moralizing storyline. The print proved immensely popular, surviving today mainly through the engraving and its many later copies, including rare impressions printed in striking red ink.[1]
